Held in a context of various international crises and conflicts, including the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, the climate emergency, and the ongoing backsliding of democracy in certain EU Member States, this years' EP elections will potentially have large consequences for the development of EU politics, both regarding internal and external relations.

To better understand these potential futures and the significance of voting at the EP elections, the Department of Politics and Society and the Department of Culture and Learning invite you for a joint talk on May 7, where we will discuss the potential election outcomes and their assumed effects on EU politics and European societies more broadly over a cup of coffee and cake.

The event starts with short presentations, followed by a Q&A. The presentations involve:

  • The EP elections: Towards an ever more polarized EU? (Associate Profesor Dominik Schraff, DPS)
  • A far-right EU? Potential consequences for EU politics after June 2024 (Postdoc Anita Nissen, DPS)
  • How to promote left-wing policies within neoliberal Europe? (Professor Óscar García Agustín, IKL)
  • For whom is "history made"? The 2024 'New Pact on Migration and Asylum' and the EU Parliament (Postdoc Franz
    Bernhardt, IKL)
