Global Politics & Diversity

The Global Politics and Diversity is an interdisciplinary research group based at the Department of Politics and Society. We are committed to advancing knowledge at the intersection of global politics and diversity. Our research examines social diversity, political mobilization, power structures, international relations, migration and displacement, gender equality, intersectionality, and democratic backsliding. Additionally, we investigate the governance of natural resources and the global implications of climate change.

Our work is regionally diverse, encompassing Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. We employ an integrative approach that bridges social, political, anthropological, and historical perspectives, emphasizing the interdependence of societies and political structures across the globe.

Core Research Areas

  • Global Governance: We examine international relations, emerging political and social mobilizations, resource management, security dynamics, surveillance, policing, and governance mechanisms in response to global crises and growing polarization.
  • Social Diversity, Movements and Counter-movements: We analyze social hierarchies, inequalities, power dynamics, and grassroots mobilization, exploring the interactions between movements and counter-movements.
  • Mobility, Migration, and Displacement: We engage with the complexities of mobility and migration, asylum policies, border governance, and the sociopolitical impacts of human mobility.
  • Regional Expertise: Our research provides in-depth, region-specific analyses of contemporary political, social, and economic transformations across key global regions (Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America).
